Turkmenistan Collects Seeds of Desert Plants for Region's Greening

Specialists from the Dashoguz Velayat Forestry are gathering seeds of desert plants as part of an environmental program. Seeds of saxaul, cherkessia, kandym, and other drought-resistant crops are being collected to green the desert areas of the region.

Special attention is focused on preserving the buffer forest zone on the Botendag ridge. Forestry employees maintain irrigation systems and conduct repairs to prevent soil erosion, desertification, and land salinization. Planting salt-tolerant crops on thousands of hectares has shown positive effects on the climate and ecology of the region, as highlighted by scientists from the Turkmen Agricultural Institute in Dashoguz.
