Our new lecture series, "**The Individual in Pre-Petrine Russia: Between Sin and Virtue**," delves into attitudes towards crimes, punishment enforcement, piety, and philanthropy.
We will explore the evolution of penalties for sins and crimes in Russia, including how secular and ecclesiastical courts handled criminal offenses. The series will also discuss the responsibilities of the wealthy towards the less privileged in society.
The first lecture, "**Sin and Crime: Murder and Capital Punishment**," examines the history of executions for murder, the imposition of ransoms, the legislation of capital punishment, and its eventual abolition. Real criminal cases from past centuries will be used to illustrate these points on **March 31**, at **7:00 PM**. Join us for an insightful discussion!
