Countries Leading in Forest Area Growth

Forests are not only being cut down in many places but are also growing in some countries. China stands out with a remarkable increase of 1.7 million hectares of forest area over the past decade, marking a record high expansion.

Following closely behind is another country, which has seen a gain of nearly a million hectares (942 thousand) of forests during the same period. Despite challenges like forest fires and deforestation, new forests are emerging in central regions, compensating for losses in other areas.

While India, Turkey, and Australia also show growth in forest area, they are significantly behind the top two leaders. India's forest expansion is five times less than the leading country, Turkey lags by eight times, and Australia trails by nine times compared to the second-ranking nation.
