Swedes lead in saving, putting away an average of 16% of their income. Following closely are Hungary at 14.3% and Czech Republic at 13.7%, despite not being the wealthiest in Europe. On the other hand, the average American household saves only 4.9% of its income, significantly lower than many European countries.
Conversely, families in New Zealand and South Africa spend more than they earn, showcasing a negative saving trend. As per Central Bank data, Russian households are positioned near the top of the global saving ranking.
