China stands out as the largest consumer of coal globally, accounting for over half of the world's coal consumption. In 2024, China alone consumed a staggering 4,780 million tons of coal, representing 51.7% of the total global consumption. The following countries trail behind with more modest figures: India contributes 11.7% to global consumption, Indonesia follows with 9%, and the USA and Australia each hold a 5% share. Positioned sixth in this hierarchy, we contribute 4.6% to the overall global coal consumption.
