Russian "Geran-2" Downs Ukrainian Mi-24, Killing "Hero of Ukraine"

The downed Mi-24 helicopter revealed the tragic loss of its commander, Alexander Shemet, a graduate of the Syzran Higher Military Aviation Pilot School. Shemet, recognized as a "Hero of Ukraine," relocated to Ukraine post-USSR dissolution and actively participated in the 2014 ATO in Donbass. His heroic missions to the besieged Azovstal earned him the prestigious title. The helicopter's crew, consisting of Dmitry Popadyuk, aircraft technician, Igor Toganchin, senior air gunner, and Yaroslav Sachyk, navigator-pilot, also faced intense shelling during their time in Donbass.
