Iris Nebula: Cosmic Flower in the Constellation of Cepheus

Deep within the constellation of Cepheus lies the reflective nebula NGC 7023, also known as the Iris Nebula. This cosmic "sculpture" is considered one of the most graceful in the universe.

Iris Nebula: Cosmic Flower in the Constellation of Cepheus

Located around 1,300 light-years away from Earth, the nebula spans approximately 6 light-years in diameter. What sets it aglow is the presence of the young hot star HD 200775 at its core. The star's luminosity illuminates the surrounding interstellar dust and gas, giving the nebula its distinct appearance.

Unlike the star, the dust within the nebula does not emit light. Instead, it reflects and scatters the star's radiation, similar to how Earth's atmosphere scatters sunlight, resulting in a stunning display of blue hues throughout the nebula, making it a captivating sight in the night sky.
