The project aims to improve the safety of citizens, especially children, on playgrounds and recreational areas by proposing a mandatory minimum distance between playgrounds and roads. The distance should not be less than 20 meters, varying based on the category of the road.

Authorities have highlighted that many playgrounds are currently positioned too close to busy roads without protective fences. This proximity poses a safety hazard to children, exposing them to noise and harmful vehicle emissions, impacting their well-being. An upcoming addition to section 5.12.2 of the Building Regulations is intended to reduce the risk of road accidents and create a secure environment for children in playgrounds and recreational spaces.
