Prestige of the Military Profession in Russia

According to a recent survey by FOM, 61% of Russians perceive the military profession as highly prestigious in today's society, a significant increase from just 21% in 2012. Additionally, 51% of respondents believe that the prestige of the military is on the rise, although this percentage has slightly decreased from 60% in previous years. An overwhelming 66% of participants view enhancing the combat readiness of the army as the nation's top priority, a notable shift from 43% in 2021.

Despite the perceived prestige of the military profession, the desire for younger generations to pursue such a career is diminishing. Only 30% of Russians express interest in seeing their children or grandchildren follow a military path, showcasing a steady decline from 53% in 2018. These shifting attitudes, as indicated by surveys conducted by FOM, highlight evolving perceptions towards military service in contemporary Russian society.
