The MagnetoPlasmaDynamic (MPD) engine has demonstrated the ability to consume 90% less fuel compared to traditional chemical rocket engines.
The engine's power output reached 120 kilowatts during testing, with future plans to increase it to either 500 kilowatts or 1 megawatt. For future missions to Mars involving human crew, spacecraft will require power between 2 to 4 megawatts.
