Graduates in Russian schools are facing restrictions on their choice of songs for graduation dances, as foreign music is now off-limits under the law protecting the Russian language.
In various regions like Ryazan, Yaroslavl, and Tambov, students have had their selections like Sting, Toni Braxton, and Whitney Houston axed in favor of more patriotic tunes to comply with the law. The Ryazan Ministry of Education clarified that schools can impose additional content requirements based on federal language and education laws, with songs needing to align with age norms and traditional values.
While students from certain republics can still enjoy waltzes in their native languages, others have had to make do with changing their choreography to comply with the new regulations, highlighting the challenges faced in celebrating graduation with a mix of tradition and modernity.
