The largest moon of Pluto, Charon, was photographed by the New Horizons spacecraft in July 2015.
Charon is the largest of Pluto's five moons, with a diameter of about 751 miles (1,207 kilometers). It is so large in comparison to Pluto that the center of mass of the Pluto-Charon system lies outside Pluto. The images taken by New Horizons revealed a varied landscape on Charon, including a dark area at the moon's north pole informally named Mordor Macula.
