The Bishkek City Hall is carrying out extensive operations to clear protective zones of urban channels from debris and remove illegally built structures, including those with official documents ("red books"). In cases where areas were previously leased, the city hall is resorting to legal action, as reported by Melis Nurlanbekov, Deputy Chief of the Land Use Control Department.
Along the Ala-Archa, BCHK, and Alamudun channels, 43 significant structures have already been demolished. Nurlanbekov explained that although owners may have had private land rights, many encroached unlawfully on additional land, which the city views as unauthorized expansion. Before any demolition occurs, a thorough analysis of the situation is conducted to ensure fair and just actions. The reclaimed areas will be transformed into public spaces for municipal use, benefitting the community at large.
