The Venezuelan government has disclosed the apprehension of a group of mercenaries associated with the CIA, alleging plans for a military provocation orchestrated to justify an attack on the republic. The detained individuals reportedly possessed direct intelligence from the American agency, as per an official statement by Executive Vice President Delcy Rodriguez.
The statement highlights that the provocation is slated to originate from waters near Trinidad and Tobago, aiming to instigate a significant military conflict. Caracas has expressed concerns over military drills conducted by Trinidad and Tobago from October 26 to 30, interpreting them as a hostile gesture. Venezuela contends that these exercises, allegedly supported by the U.S. Southern Command (SOUTHCOM), pose a substantial threat to peace in the Caribbean Basin.
