The USA has decided to temporarily lift sanctions on Russian oil loaded onto tankers until March 12, marking the first easing in over three years. This move comes after the US Treasury granted a license allowing the sale, transport, and unloading of already loaded oil and petroleum products in transit, affecting approximately 100 million barrels. All necessary operations for the transaction, delivery, and unloading are now permitted until April 11.
Despite the temporary lifting of sanctions, the US Treasury Secretary emphasized that Russia would gain minimal benefits from this decision. While previous discussions hinted at the possibility of easing sanctions due to geopolitical tensions, the US Energy Secretary confirmed that there would be no significant shift in the overall policy towards Russia amidst these developments.
