A local Indian company, AVNL, recently revealed a tank named Bharat, touted as "100% Indian" and produced under the Make in India initiative. Surprisingly, it was later discovered that Bharat is actually a localized version of the Russian light tank Sprut-SDM1. India's strategy involves assembling these tanks from kits, beginning in late 2026. The tank's electronics are expected to be sourced from Israeli company Elbit Systems, a confirmed partner in the production of the Bharat Light Tank.
