Deputy Raises Concerns About Lack of Food in Detention Center

During a session of the Jogorku Kenesh, deputy Mahabat Mavlyanova raised concerns about detainees in the pre-trial detention center not receiving adequate food. The deputy mentioned receiving complaints about individuals awaiting a court decision not being provided with meals, despite their innocence until proven guilty. According to her, even though relatives bring food three times a day, it is reportedly insufficient.

In response to the deputy's claims, Deputy Head of the State Prison Service Nurlan Sarchayev denied the allegations. Sarchayev stated that the detention center is closely monitored by a special prosecutor, the chief, and deputy chief to ensure compliance with regulations. He clarified that detainees are served meals three times a day in accordance with established decrees, and they are also allowed to receive food from their relatives.
