A group of Australian researchers recently observed a shark near the South Shetland Islands in the Antarctic waters, a rare sighting in this region. The shark, described as clumsy and massive, was seen swimming slowly over the lifeless seabed at a significant depth, surprising the researchers with its presence.

Many experts had previously believed that sharks did not inhabit the extremely cold waters of Antarctica. However, this unexpected sighting challenged that assumption when the shark briefly appeared in front of an underwater camera. Researcher Alan Jamieson mentioned that the discovered shark was estimated to be between 3 to 4 meters in length, shedding light on the little-known presence of these predators in the Antarctic region.
